FAQ

Quick answers

How do I convert an SVG to a symbol?
Set Id (default icon) and click Convert to symbol. Drawable children of <svg> move into <symbol> inside defs. A <use href="#id"> is added so the graphic still paints.
Why is there still a use after convert?
A symbol in defs does not paint by itself. The leftover <use> is the instance. Inline SVG Use Elements if you need that instance turned back into real geometry.
Does Convert to Symbol extract a single layer by id?
No. The whole drawable body becomes one symbol. Extract SVG Element by Id if you need one node copied into its own file.
What if that symbol id already exists?
The tool suffixes -2, -3, … so it never overwrites an existing id. Title, desc, style, and defs stay on the root.
